It has already been discussed in the transformer principles section that transformers either step up or step down voltage for distribution equipment. In this section are sample riser diagrams which display how those transformers fit into a system. The image will give an overview of the design while the pdf download gives more detail and clarity. In order to view the pdf document you will need to have Adobe Reader installed. It can be downloaded for free here. This riser shows high voltage for lighting and hvac, low voltage for power receptacles, etc. This service is very small so all power and lighting is stepped down to 208v 3ø This is similar to the first example but the low voltage panel is located a long distance from the high voltage panel, so a disconnect is required. This riser shows a mix of existing and new transformers. |
